GasPulse
Support
GasPulse is a simple, free gas-price tracker made by an independent developer (Misha). It shows daily gas and diesel estimates when fresh inputs are available, weekly EIA observations for your state or region, historical trends, and an outlook. Need help or have a suggestion? You’re in the right place.
Frequently asked questions
Is GasPulse free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no subscription, no ads, and no account or sign-up.
Where do the prices come from?
Official gas and diesel observations come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and update weekly. Between those releases, GasPulse can show clearly labeled daily modeled estimates based on dated EIA inputs. These estimates are not new EIA retail observations or individual station quotes. Some states share a regional series or proxy. When fresh estimates are unavailable, the app can show dated weekly, cached, or bundled data.
Why doesn’t it show the price at a specific gas station near me?
GasPulse is a trend and average tracker, not a station finder. It shows area averages and labeled estimates for a state or region, so it’s great for seeing where prices are heading, but it won’t list the price at an individual pump.
Why does my state show a “regional” average?
Official weekly gasoline observations have state-level coverage for nine states; other states use labeled regional averages. California has its own diesel series; other states use regional diesel averages. Daily estimates may also use regional proxies. The app labels coverage and source dates so these are not mistaken for independent state measurements.
What is the “Outlook”?
Outlook shows projected price trends and uncertainty. GasPulse uses a published forecast when available and can fall back to an on-device projection based on historical prices. Forecasts are estimates, not guarantees, and may be withheld when unavailable or stale.
How do I change states?
Spin the state selector on the main screen, or tap Surprise Me to jump to a random one.
Does it support Dark Mode?
Yes. GasPulse follows your iPhone’s light or dark appearance automatically. So does this website, by the way.
What iPhone do I need?
GasPulse runs on iPhone with iOS 18 or later.
How to read gas-price trends
Why do gas prices change?
The price at the pump reflects crude oil, refining, distribution and marketing, and taxes. Crude oil is usually the largest component. Supply disruptions and changes in demand can also move prices. The EIA explains these price components.
Why is my local station different from the average?
An area average summarizes a wider market. It does not quote the price at a particular station. Use GasPulse to understand the direction and history of your state or region, then check the station’s posted price before filling up.
How should I use a gas-price outlook?
Start with the latest reported average, compare it with previous periods, and treat the outlook as an estimate. A rising trend does not mean every station will raise its price, and a forecast cannot guarantee savings on your next fill-up.
